Every year on March 8th, the world marks International Women’s Day (IWD) — a global occasion to celebrate the achievements of women, spotlight the ongoing fight for gender equality, and drive action towards a more just and equitable world. In 2025, the theme #AccelerateAction calls on all of us to step up efforts to break down barriers, create opportunities, and fast-track progress towards gender equality.
CraftsOfAfrica embodies the spirit of IWD by directly supporting women artisans across Africa. This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the talented women artisans who are not only preserving cultural heritage but also driving economic empowerment within their communities. Across the globe, women are driving innovation, growth, and change. From leading small and medium-sized enterprises to founding thriving businesses in competitive industries, women are demonstrating resilience, vision, and ambition.
Empowering Women through Craftsmanship

Across Africa, millions of women rely on traditional crafts. By providing a platform for these talented women to showcase and sell their handcrafted goods, CraftsOfAfrica fosters economic empowerment, preserves traditional crafts, and promotes sustainable livelihoods. These skills are more than just creative expression; they are vital sources of income and independence.
Through partnerships and capacity-building initiatives, we equip these women with skills to scale their businesses, access new markets, and adapt to changing consumer trends. From providing training in sustainable production techniques to supporting digital marketing efforts, we’re committed to helping African women artisans thrive in today’s global economy.

Supporting women artisans has a ripple effect across communities. Research has consistently shown that when women have access to economic opportunities, they invest in their families’ education, healthcare, and overall well-being. By empowering one woman artisan, we help uplift entire communities, driving positive change for generations to come.
African women artisans are not just artists; they are changemakers, entrepreneurs, and cultural ambassadors.
