This manual will walk you through the process of accurately measuring your products for catalog and shipping purposes. Please follow these steps to ensure consistency and clarity across all items.

Gather Necessary Tools

  • Measuring tape or ruler (in centimeters)
  • Scale (for weight in kilograms or grams)
  • Camera or smartphone for clear photos

Measuring Dimensions

Each product should be measured in three dimensions all in CM:

Height (H) – Measure from the base to the highest point of the product.
Width (W) – Measure the widest horizontal part of the product.
Depth (D) – Measure from the front to the back, at the deepest point.

Tip: Ensure the product is standing upright and on a flat surface for the most accurate measurements. Record the dimensions in centimeters (cm).

Weighing the Product

Place the product on the scale to determine its weight.
Record the weight in grams (g).
If using packaging, measure the weight of the product alone and note it separately from the packaging weight.

Calculating Volumetric Weight

Volumetric weight is a measurement used by shipping companies to determine shipping costs based on the volume a package occupies instead of its actual weight. To calculate volumetric weight, follow this formula:

Formula: Volumetric Weight (kg) = (Length x Width x Height) / 5000

For example, we will consider a product with an actual weight of 0.9 kg and the following dimensions: Length: 30 cm; Width: 20 cm; Height: 10 cm

To calculate the volumetric weight, use these steps:

Calculate the Volume: Length x Width x Height = 30 cm x 20 cm x 10 cm = 6000 cm³

Calculate the Volumetric Weight: Volume / 5000 = 6000 cm³ / 5000 = 1.2 kg

In summary, the actual weight is 0.9 kg while the volumetric weight is 1.2 kg

Shipping charges are usually based on the higher of the two weights, which in our case is the Volumetric Weight.

Photographing the Product

Take at least three clear photos from different angles:
Front view
Side view
Top view
Ensure the product is centered in each photo and has good lighting.
If possible, use a plain white background for a clean, professional look.
